Description:
Windsor House is a community that consists of students, staff, parents, graduates and volunteers. The Windsor House Alternative Program is in an ongoing state of evolution as it reflects the direction and concerns of its current community members. The rules change constantly as the community adjusts to new challenges. What does not change, however, is our overriding commitment of respect for oneself and others, and guidelines around school district policies i.e. student conduct and safety. Responsibilities go along with rights. Community members expect freely given commitments to be honored. We, as a community, want to encourage our children to take control of their own lives, to make autonomous decisions and follow through on them. They need to make real choices. It is our job to maintain firm boundaries around actions that are not acceptable to the community. We model questioning not only overt instances of discrimination and prejudice, but also the subtle assumptions that tend to permeate our society. We are committed to providing an accepting environment for everyone in our community. We welcome people with varied racial, ethnic and economic backgrounds. Relationship is the key to success. Every staff member works hard to build strong, trust-based relationships with each student.

Everyone is addressed by his or her first name. You are treated as a person and your point of view is not written off. Windsor House has its own personality. It is a vibrant community; a highly stimulating environment that generates intrinsic motivation.
